AMANDA BURRI, MA, RP

ABOUT ME

Born and raised in Ottawa, I grew up in a close-knit family with many younger cousins, which naturally positioned me in a helping role from a young age. After spending a year in Nursing, I discovered my true passion lay in exploring the human psyche and understanding the intricacies of our thoughts and behaviours.

I am deeply passionate about three things: mental health, animals, and hockey.

I feel truly privileged to guide individuals on their journey toward improved mental well-being. In addition to my work, I volunteer with a local animal rescue in the Ottawa region, finding great fulfillment in helping these animals find new homes. My family has a strong hockey tradition; I have played competitively in the Ottawa area since I was eight years old and continue to do so today.

When I’m not spending time with loved ones, caring for animals, or on the ice, you can often find me knitting at home or hiking the trails around the Ottawa-Gatineau area.

EDUCATION

After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Carleton University, I pursued a Master of Arts in Counselling and Spirituality at Saint Paul University in Ottawa. During my time at Saint Paul University, I gained practical experience as a counselling intern, working with individual clients until my graduation. Since completing my degree in 2018, I have been running a private practice, offering psychotherapy services to adult individuals.

APPROACH

As your therapist, my goal is to create a safe, warm, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences. I believe that therapy encompasses more than addressing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors; it’s also about uncovering your strengths and learning new skills to navigate life’s challenges.

I work collaboratively with each client to develop a personalized plan tailored to your unique needs. My approach primarily draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and I also incorporate strategies from other modalities, such as Solution-Focused Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Therapy.

SPECIALIZATION

I specialize in working with individual clients, aged 18-65, who may be experiencing or may want to address:

  • Anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic)
  • Stress management and resilience
  • Personal & interpersonal relationships
  • Boundaries / Communication
  • Self-esteem / Self-worth
